ABOUT EVES, CARS AND RAFAEL S

ABOUT  EVES, CARS AND RAFAEL S

It was the usual peak hour traffic in the city of Hyderabad. Less chaotic due to better infrastructure and maintenance than many cities here in India. However, the same eulogies cannot be showered on the Hyderabadi drivers. They are a unique lot. Not that other city motorists are saints. Here the guy or the lady has unilaterally reserved the road for him or her, with the meek backing of the traffic cops. The rules modified then and there.
Anyway, this was not meant to be treatise on the Hyderabadi drivers or roads.
As mentioned, I was travelling in my car and my driver was at the wheels. He is a good driver and is also adequately equipped with expletives needed on the Hyderabadi roads. I usually do not interfere as I am oblivious to what is happening. The morning was bright as the sun, after months, had gathered courage to come back. The chilly mornings were giving way to warmer summer ones.
We were waiting at a signal. Three more cars and a few two wheelers and rickshaws were waiting in parallel to my car. The long wait made me look up from my reading and notice this. Decades of travelling, driven by someone else, inculcated in me the habit of reading or working, sitting behind. Nowadays, its more reading than working.
I went back to my reading, concentrating on some difficult concept in relativity physics. It is a little easier to understand Einstein if you are in a moving frame of reference!  Suddenly, I was awakened from figuring out a suitable Lagrangian, to the sight of an object accelerating to nearly the speed of light. Impossible! I almost shrieked out. Soon I realized that I was looking at the street and cars starting off after the signal turned green. What startled me was a car which accelerated from 0 to 60 Km/ hr in a nanosecond, as it were. I could still see it vanishing quickly from my sight.
Realizing that I seem to be in a state of bewilderment, my driver mentioned that it was a lady behind the wheels. He too had a sense of awe and even a smile on his face.
The lady driver had deftly dodged cars that were just past the signal from the perpendicular road at the end of the red signal, and continued accelerating. Single minded purpose. Focused. Fearless. Probably, also taking to her friend in the cell phone (remember here the road rules are framed by motorists) or even munching a sandwich. Multi-tasking.
I remained glued to that vanishing car and the unseen lady at the wheels. My mind traveled few days back. To a news item which mentioned that women were now allowed Permanent Commission in the armed forces and could occupy command positions. Why did my mind time travel and recall this? Seemed odd at first.
After trying to decipher Einstein's complex notations, my mind was equipped to quickly evaluate reasons, reject unacceptable ones. Soon I realized it was the analogy of a women and command positions that made me recall the news while I was witness to the ravishing beauty (now thats a lie, I never saw her. But do allow for some speculation) on the wheels of a car.
Just imagine, if that fearless lady (like all women at  the wheels) was piloting a fighter aircraft!. Imagine her at the controls of a Jaguar or a Rafael, angrily in combat with a Paki guy in a F-16.
Focused. Single minded determination. Maneuvering. Travelling at near the speed of light, so it would seem to the Paki, appearing here and then somewhere else before he could blink. Oblivious of anything around her except the F-16. In the same sense of purpose as the lady at the wheels. If the Paki pilot manages to once outwit her in the dogfight, then Hell hath no fury than a women fighter pilot scorned!
What is common. Nothing but the fact they were
both women. No different than anyone of that kind. Combat ready at any time in all places.
Then why did the mandarins of the South Block in the Defense Ministry decide on  PC and all roles for  women except combat ones?
Surely, the above examples make women ideal for that role, in an aircraft , much more lethal at that than men!!. A women fighter pilot and a modern fighter aircraft in her hand. Nothing more frightful for our enemies. Believe me and am not joking! The Ausiees have women in this role and, so too, for god’s sake, Pakis.
Air Marshal sab please realize that only half those Rafael would be needed because the ladies are a force multiplier! Click your boots, put on your wings or whatever and tell those morons there in Government to bite the bullet! Jain hind!
