CAA : Points to ponder
CAA : Points to ponder
What we saw last one week or so was a spontaneous outburst of student protests across the nation against the CAA , particularly against the perceived intention behind this initiative by the BJP /RSS government. None of the political parties , both the opposition and the ruling one , had anticipated it. A large number of Muslim students were out too in the street as the act pointedly keeps out that community, possibly in violation of the secular values of our constitution. Some felt that itself was proof of antinationalisim! One of the pillars of democracy, the SC , which has time to urgently hear cases of important individuals , has no time to look at the legality of the act and delays it conveniently.
The major political dispensations were focused on their vote banks so they too underestimated the apprehension among the people.
The govt wanting to live upto its misplaced and self bestowed attribute of a tough and efficient one, let loose the police on the protesters. The excuse emerged due to the, not so surprising , handiwork of organised professional rioters among the students. The morons who make the police force these days could not know or could't care who were the culprits.
In the last few days the PM and his HM , both not well known for being sticklers for the truth, quickly realised the grave miscalculation they did. They had assumed their invincibility and managed to rough shod parliament with its bunch of sycophants and majorly ignorant MP's, which then gave them the sanctity. They started retreating for the first time since 2014 , albeit , maybe a temporary and tactical pause. Both are trying to enrage the media. This is a victory for the people in general and a welcome trait in the rulers.
Meanwhile , lets keep aside the legality and the various ways the CAA and the thread of NPR and NRC that binds all three can be misused and cause harm to sections of the population. That needs a detailed explanation which am sure few are interested. What matters is the true intention . For that we also need to look at the following easier to understand questions:
1. Why did the government think it fit to introduce this at such a break neck speed, without a standing committee wetting it, at this time. Are we not in the midts of a crises? Of lack of growth, jobs, inflation, farm distress, poor investor sentiment , low consumption and what have you! Aren't governments meant to address these first . At least with whatever time they have after election rallies!.
Well, we can only guess. Its may be out of place to dismiss the possibility of the need to advance the agenda of Hindutav ( as that is their professed faith and has been their commitment ) . The country's governance was now a tall order , money dwindling , corporate moneybags not willing to fund more. So rush and complete the agenda before its too late. Ponder yourself if this could be true.
2. The population of non Muslims in pak , Bangladesh and Afghanistan , possibly totals to 3 to 4 cr people. Are they seriously persecuted in large numbers due to their faiths? No evidence of any significant increase now. However, there has been a trickle and more over many decades from the time of independence ,due to the reason of faith as well as economic ones. So what was the hurry now. Further, consider if a certain percent of them are allowed to come in , it would mean a few lakhs at least. Where will you settle them , who will give jobs etc. Do we have jobs here? The Delhi CM asked this but few answered. Will Gujarat, the vibrant Indian state of the PM, accommodate them and give jobs? Ponder yourself.
3. From where will most produce documents? The NPR does not ask for and no one must give. However the NRC will need and it seems the ones you need could be difficult to produce. By the common man. Leading to confusion , bribery etc which we all know is the hall mark of our culture. No amount of assurance will help here. So the ones local politicians want to regularize will be managed. Millions left in the lurch and by design many would be Muslims. Or this is for taking care of West Bengal only? Ponder yourself!
Its all about a governments honesty , its credibility . Its about a man who is a Prime Minister who belongs to all and who has to have compassion. One ,to whom people can go to and expect a fair deal. This is for him to ponder!
