Red yellow and Green kuch kas
My car had stopped at a traffic signal. The types you find in this crumbling but upbeat city, constantly reminding you that you are not supposed to be on the road and now that you are , would you please wait for eons to pass by! This one counts from 1 to 130 and don't ask me in what units. Probably no one knows or cares. A score and few of these I sometimes encounter, if my work takes me away from my office down town. These breaks are , by design, utilised to take a break from reading the Economic Times. A different world exists here. A world that, probably, employs business processes which are miles ahead of the e-commerce firms. There was one guy, who would have barely seen 18 winters, trying to assess if I was the right guy who can buy the pack of American apples he was pedalling. At times, I had seen another offering upholstery material, yet another the latest pulitzer winning hardcover or vegetables , name it and you can find them. These guys, who may not have seen the inside of a school , have developed the art and science of evaluating the market potential, assessing a customer's buying power, his or her inclination , making a pitch etc to a nicety. Often thought of inviting some of these guys and gals to meet the bunch of overpaid sales guys that my company and me have employed. Speaking of business models , this one will not be found being taught in ivy league schools. Venture funds who seem to go berserk running after the Flipcarts of the world are oblivious of the existence of this enterprising lot. And that's odd. These guys too spend watching the count from 1 to 130 go by. This is more advanced than E - commerce. No last mile hitches. All POD. The guys makes the pitch, you decide and before our signal friend has reached a count of 60 the deal is closed and transaction completed. Bombay, or Mumbai, nurtures and grows the entrepreneur in anyone. As we reached 130 and as my burly driver accelerated , I fancied some of them manging few millions in valuations . Join the party my friend, I muttered . And I went back to reading economic gossip in the ET,the Filmfare of the economic world, much less of analysis and pure news. The ET of yester -years only in memory.
Wow Shiva ! Excellent write up
