ALTERNATE SYSTEMS OF MEDICINE* T

*ALTERNATE SYSTEMS OF MEDICINE* The issue with most of the alternate systems of medicine or treatment with respect  to Allopathy, is  the allmost complete lack of scientific evidence about its efficacy, toxicity and even if there is some its not peer reviewed . Most of these are based on medicinal plant or animal extracts and is genearally not  chemically different from  that of Allopathic medicines, though in the case  of the latter  some are sympathetically extracted.  Systems like ayurvedha , are based on ancient texts and recipes, written by people ( termed  mistakenly as sages  ) who were alchemists using data collected over ages from people treated for illeness and then recording it. It may have been reliable thousands of years back. The human body has evolved , changed , adopted over these periods. Environment around which humans live too has drastically changed. Diseases and illness profile is vastly different. Therefore, the...

Musings of a besieged soul

Morning from now  on means 3 or 4 am. I woke up alert as  a busy bee. My mind and body , the whole 64 years of battle hard and bruised components,  seems to be behaving as if , its to become a part of WW3 action.  Well! Its deja vu all over!!  The great predni , my cohabiting  friend for 7 to 8  yrs of the  end 21st century,  has once again decided to come back and be with me for some weeks. He was jealous to find Ms Corona , enticing me sleathly and managing to live inside my lungs for the past  ten days. By joe!  how can that be allowed to happen!!!  He beleives that this romancing  is his right!   So he , aided and abetted by our hard working and tired doctors , knocked and made his way into me yesterday, bag , baggage, lota , I pad and all.  Now hold on. I am not a party to this forced occupation. My right of self determination is not even acknowledged. Just like that   fakir in Delhi....
SIGNS OF A MILATARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX The  military Industrial complex  ( MIC ) describes the relationship between a nation's military and the defense  industry , seen together as a vested interest which influences public policy. Both the world wars saw weapons of war conceived and produced on an industrial scale, often moving industrial capability and capacity away from producing goods of human consumption  towards   manufacture of weapons,  fighter aircrafts and war ships. After the wars this infrastructure remained dedicated to building weapons. Sometime in the early 60's, Dwight Eisenhower, who was the American President then, gave meaning to this phrase and thus alerted the people of the world to its implication. He said and I quote, " Now this conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry ....  The total influence—economic, political, even spiritual—is felt in every city, every State...

THE TWO DEMOCRACIES WITH ITS UNDERLYING FAULT LINES

THE TWO DEMOCRACIES WITH ITS UNDERLYING FAULT LINES The American civil society went through a painful but determined effort to bring about a change in the way it treated racial groups, including blacks, post-world war. After the death of Kennedy, President Johnson, introduced measures that tried to address the racial issues. The civil rights movement, of Martin Luther King Jr, reinforced this change. The two American political entities, the Democrats and the Republicans, both had a large segment of liberal members, even though there were still conservatives and white supremacy right wingers lying dormant in both. America seemed to have battled the demon, as if it were, for now, it seemed. The world had another experiment in liberal democracy, conducted far away in India. After centuries of a highly divided society on caste lines and ruled by multitudes of fiefdoms, this geographical entity, called the Indian subcontinent, was plundered and ruled by all and sundry until the ...

A COUP IN THE US AND LESSONS FOR OTHERS

An attempted coup by Trump. So finally US behaves like a banana republic. Thugs and Trump bhakts breach security and enter capital hill , house of US parliament, and assult all those there. Force entry towards Congressmen and women and who ran for shelter. Four dead and many injured. A huge security failure. Imagine how easy it would be for terrorists to have got in and kill politicians and officials! An event yhat is deadlier than the Indian parliamemt attack. Here are vital questions you may ponder over and ignore at your peril. How can the US preach other nations now? Will the US blame Russia or China for this also? Or is this not their own doing? Will the US experience be a lesson to other democracies on how such misplaced ideaology can harm democracy and propagate one person's personality and selfish interest? How deep is the divide of people and how did those who manage a personality cult following, acheive this divide. How weak institutions, as in some natio...

MEMORIES OF DAYS GONE BY AND A TRIBUTE

MEMORIES OF DAYS GONE BY AND A TRIBUTE Radheshyam was a middle aged, tall and a bit heavily set man. His face never reflected any stress whatsoever in life. Pleasant and always with a welcome tilt of the head and an occasional bow when he sees his regular customers. All this while his hands magically circumnavigated the head of a customer, deftly trimming and shaping the hair. As always, he had a tale to tell, an incident to narrate and a couple of political points to make. To whoever was in his shop and willing to lend an ear. He was not unduly concerned if anyone participated in this attempted conversation or not but an occasional nod or a smile would suffice to egg him on. The radio, ever present, tuned to Vividh Bharti, relentlessly in the background, rendered those wonderful and evergreen melodies of Rafi, Mukesh, Lata and Kishore. While we went about losing a bit of hair, the memory cells replaced matter lost with the lyrics and tunes of these songs. Forever etched. ...

HAS THE CRICKET MATCH BEEN WON? NO NOT YET!!

HAS THE CRICKET MATCH BEEN WON? NOT YET!   The West Indian batsman shuffled across and met the ball slightly outside his offstump , the ball hurtling at about 90 mph, and thumped it past cover. Immaculate and perfectly timed. The cherry hugged mother earth, green as green grass can be, and raced to the fence. The four slips, a gully and the wicket keeper, waiting for that snick, along with the extra cover, just stood and watched. The moment was greeted with silence. Deafening silence. I felt sad. The eleven men, the two batsmen and the two umpires, all in majestic white flannels and green cap, against a green top ground at Southampton, England, was playing cricket in all its majestic glory. Test cricket and not the short variety. The red cherry that defines real cricket. The English speedster, hurtling with nine men breathing down the neck of a young West Indian batsmen , the ball dug in hard and then moving away off the air or off the seam at 92 mph, the young batsmen, nonchalantl...
